Welcome to Wisdom Wednesday
Our new series, Wisdom Wednesday, will take you into the mind of Copper Creek Builders, so you can see some of what it takes to bring you our award winning homes. Our goal is simple: we want you to learn something new each week. Every Wednesday, we’ll share interesting facts and parts of our company that are often overlooked.
Some weeks, we’ll be on-site talking about the jobs our talented trade partners do, such as the foundation. Other weeks, we’ll bring you inside to discover details that go unnoticed. For this week’s Wisdom Wednesday, we’re talking about our zero-step shower
Welcome to Wisdom Wednesday! Each week, we take you behind-the-scenes at Copper Creek Builders to share insights about our home and the benefits they bring. Some weeks, you’ll learn about the work of our skilled trade partners, like foundations or flooring. Other weeks, like this one, we’ll take you inside to show you the thoughtful details our builders came up with to make your life more convenient and enjoyable.
This week, we’re spotlighting our zero-step homes. Our builders want to have a home that coincides with the concept of “aging in place”. Having a home that allows one to “age in place” means that as one gets older, they won’t have to relocate to a different home. For example, a home that ages poorly might have the primary bedroom on a second floor. This would make life more challenging over time.
One zero-step feature we especially value is our shower in the primary bathroom. Here, we have a glass door that opens fully and you can walk right in. There is no need for getting off balance as there is nothing to step up into. According to the CDC, “Approximately 80% of all bathroom injuries were caused by falls, with the highest injury rates in the oldest age groups.”1 This means that ⅔ of all bathroom injuries occur in the tub or shower, often when stepping out.
By incorporating a no-step shower, you can be more comfortable in your own home. Instead of you taking a step, your safety takes a step.
To further enhance the safety, there is an added motion sensor that activates a light when triggered. This light, known as foot lighting (or toe kick lighting), illuminates at your feet. If you get up in the middle of the night and need to use the restroom or get a drink, this light will guide you safely past obstacles the dark can hide.
