Wisdom Wednesday: Why Do Faucets Matter?
The average household’s leaky faucets can provide the amount of water to wash 270 loads of laundry, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. To eliminate water waste, we have partnered with MOEN to provide high quality faucets that will save your water bill and help eliminate water waste. From the International Builder’s Show, Andrea goes into depth about Moen and demonstrates the quality behind the faucets that we use in our homes.
The average household’s leaky faucets can account for more than 10,000 gallons of water waste every year, or the amount of water needed to wash “270 loads of laundry”, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Older faucets stopped water by using a rubber washer that pressed down to block the flow. Over time, that rubber would wear out, which is why old faucets often start dripping.
Modern faucet technology has changed that. Today, many faucets use ceramic disc valves. These discs slide together to open or close the water flow. Since the ceramic is very hard and doesn’t wear down easily, these faucets are less likely to leak. What was once considered a premium feature is now widely used in modern faucets, helping homeowners enjoy better performance.
One company that has helped shape this evolution in faucet technology is Moen. For more than 85 years, Moen has been a trusted name in kitchens and bathrooms across the country. While many people know Moen as a faucet company, the brand sees itself as something more, a water experience company.
To learn more about what sets the brand apart, we spoke with Andrea from Moen during our time at the International Builder’s Show. She shared how any product Moen develops is designed with the “end user in mind”. They focus on how people interact with water in their everyday lives.
Quality is a top priority, and Moen products are tested well beyond standard requirements to ensure durability and long-term performance. “They look at the design, the ergonomics, and how people will actually use the product,” Andrea shares. “So when you choose a Moen fixture, you’re not only getting something that’s gorgeous and on-trend, but something that’s built to last and become part of your home for a very long time.” Having an ergonomic design for faucets means that the handles and spouts are designed for ease of use. You can grab the handle with wet or soapy hands and without awkward straining. It also includes good water reach such as making it easy to wash hands, dishes, or fill containers. Using water should feel easy and natural.
